The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) arrested a suspect for car theft on Wednesday.
The man was reportedly stripping two Volkswagen Polos, stolen the previous day.
Officers later found him at premises with 6x VW Polo computer boxes, 13x cellphones, 1x signal finder, 5x different vehicle keys, 1x Hyundai H1 steering wheel, 1x VW Polo steering wheel,1x VW Polo odometer, 1x firearm with 2x live rounds and 2x blanks, a full box of tools used for VIN and engine number altering, a comprehensive bag of stripping tools, 1x JMPD mask and a JMPD combat belt.
Commissioner Patrick Jaca of JMPD, said “this operation highlights the patience and dedication of our Tactical Response Unit. By removing these stripping tools and illegal firearms from our streets, we are disrupting the syndicate chains that drive vehicle theft in Johannesburg. We remain committed to ensuring that those who mimic law enforcement to commit crimes are brought to justice.”
Also in Johannesburg, police reported an arrest of a 40-year-old man, in Bedfordview.
He was arrested in a Toyota GR, whilst transporting illegal gold to traders.
He had no permits to be in possession and to transport gold, therefore, contravening Section 13 of the Precious Metal Act 37 of 2005.
The gold is valued at approximately R300,000.
Police said a multidisciplinary team, worked together in the case, including JHB-DPCI/OCIU, JMPD K9, and Benoni police (SAPS).
