Eskom confirmed there would be no loadshedding until March 2026, due to sustained improvements in plant performance from the Generation Recovery Plan.

The Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is at 67.55% in December 2025, up from last year’s 57.06%.

Daphne Mokwena, Eskom’s Spokesperson, said in a statement, these improvements are driven by a reduction of unplanned outages.

“For the period 19 to 25 December 2025, average unplanned outages decreased to 8 493MW, down from 11 831MW in 2024” said Mokwena.

The average Planned Capacity Loss Factor (PCLF) is also down at 10.75%, compared to the previous year’s 19.24%.

This is attributed to an intensive maintenance programme implemented in the previous year to restore fleet reliability.

Eskom also said about 12 325MW are currently on cold reserve, due to excess capacity and low usage during the December holidays.
