The R11 billion Koruson 1 project, outside Middelburg and Noupoort on the border of the Eastern and Northern Cape provinces, is moving closer towards its final commercial operation date (COD).

EDF South Africa took to social media platforms to announce its Phezukomoya wind farm, would reach COD on 04 February 2026. 

The project is managed by EDF power solutions, a local South African BEE partners -H1 Holdings, Gibb-Crede, and a local community trust -the Koruson 1 project. 

The group was awarded under Round 5 of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP). 

It entered into a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the designated offtaker.

The project has three 140 MW wind farms—San Kraal, Coleskop, and Phezukomova—located near Middelburg, making it the largest wind project in Africa, with 78 turbines.
