A sixth body was recovered in Msinga, on Tuesday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), said the body is that of a man among the six, who were swept away by water whilst attempting to cross the low-lying Infenebude bridge on the P17 in eNadi, eMabovini, last month.

Two others escaped to safety.

They are between the ages of 25 and 40.

This latest body was found in the eMakhabeleni area under the uMvoti Local Municipality.

The Department said a formal DNA process will be undertaken to ensure positive identification, because of the time the victim was in the water.

This latest recovery concludes a 12 -day operation.

Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC for COGTA, said “the recovery of the last missing person concludes the search effort. All individuals have now been accounted for, and families may begin the next steps in their healing process.”

He also extended his condolences to the affected families and thanked multidisciplinary search and rescue teams.
