As of 9 April 2026, Impofu Dam, located on the Kromme River, in the Eastern Cape, the main supplier of the Nelson Mandela Metro, is at 21.36%.
The Metro said on Thursday, “this is a serious concern for Bay’s water supply.”
Residents and business were urged to urgently reduce water usage, by using only what is necessary, fix leaks immediately, avoid watering gardens and washing cars and practice water-saving habits daily.
The Department of Water and Sanitation, shared national surface water storage figures, are at a combined 94.9%.
Most dams in the country are full, the Polokwane Water Supply System is at 105,8%, with Flag Boshielo (95,3%) and Ebenezer Dam (95,5%).
Dams supplying the Free State, Northern Cape and the Eastern Cape, such as the Gariep and van der Kloof, are at a combined 92,6%.
But the Cape Town system is at 47,2% full, down from 63,3% last year, around this time.
