37-year-old woman, Lauren Fredericks, died in Knysna, on Wednesday morning, when a tree fell on her car.

She was a social auxiliary worker, in Knysna.

Rains continued into Thursday, in the Southern and Eastern Cape, necessitating road closures.

The Garden Route Joint Operating Committee (JOC) said rain measured over 150mm in just two days, in Knysna Kleingrysbos (286,8 mm), Knysna Diepwalle (285,6 mm), Plett Newlands  (276,8 mm), Stormsrivier Forest Fern (239,2 mm), Stormsrivier Witteklip (222,8 mm), Witfontein (219,2 mm), George Tierkpop (190,8 mm), Mossel Bay Robinson Pass (179,6 mm), Wilderness Dieprivier (166,2 mm) and Plettenberg Bay (159,4 mm).

The bridge over the Elephant River in the direction of Mossel Bay is currently overflowing after the continuous rain.

Similarly, all roads within the Karoo National Park were closed on Thursday.

Closed roads are; Haelkraal Road (R328 – Ruiterbos to R327 – Herbertsdale), Leeukloof Road (Klein Brak River / Botlierskop area), Kleinplaas Road (Great Brak River / Friemersheim / Jonkersberg) and the R328 to Oudsthoorn is closed at Ruiterbos.

Due to flooding, the Leeukloof road in the Klein Brak River / Botlierskop vicinity was closed late this afternoon

Others closed on account of floods are Meiringspoort, between Beaufort West and Oudtshoorn, Swartberg Pass, between Prince Albert and Oudtshoorn and the first entrance to Uniondale from George.

The Uniondale Poort road is open, and the R62 between Haarlem and Avontuur.
