A heatwave is sweeping through Europe, a since June 2026.

A national heat record 44,3 degrees was recorded in Pissos in France.

Meteorologists at the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said the heatwave is expected to spread over large parts of Western, Central, and Southern parts of the continent.

There is also a red alert over large parts of Switzerland. 

Other affected countries are Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, southern United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Italy, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.

The WMO said it is working to ensure that people at risk receive enough information. 

WMO and World Health Organization (WHO) have also jointly developed guidance on extreme heat and heat-health early warning systems.
