Meteorologists are keeping a watchful eye over a possible monsoon after dust storms in Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, in India, this week.

Locals call the dust storms, the Andhi or Kaali Aandhi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a few regions might have vulnerable to severe weather events, such as dust storms, heavy rains, and heatwaves. 

Dust storms proceed monsoons often from April, May, into June. 

India’s Department of Earth Sciences, said these could occur in parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand & Bihar, and some parts of Chhattisgarh during next 4-5 days.

Powerful winds went up to 60 km an hour in several districts of Rajasthan.

These disrupted visibility on the road. 

Authorities urged people to stay informed of local weather happenings and exercise caution while travelling.

The Meteorological Department also said dust storms can become more regular with desertification.
