Reports of rain, sleet and snow on routes leading to Gauteng, have included the N3 Toll Concession and the N3 between Mooi River and Warden as well as the KZN Midlands area.
As a result, the Gauteng Provincial JOC, urged motorists to plan ahead and exercise caution on the roads.
“Monitor official weather and road updates before and during your journey – the later you leave in current weather fronts the more likely you are to encounter dangerous conditions” said the JOC, on Monday.
Motorists are urged to keep vehicle lights switched on, and to drive according to the road and weather conditions, by reducing speed.
The Graaff-Reinet Tourism Agency warned against road closures, including the R61 between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet and the N9 between Middelburg and Graaff-Reinet.
These were closed due to snow and dangerous travelling conditions.
Motorists travelling towards Graaff-Reinet are also advised to consider the R63 route via Cookhouse and Somerset East.
Reports of snow extend to the Drakensberg Gardens.
Motorists travelling through the southern Drakensberg are urged to exercise caution, as road conditions may become slippery and visibility could be reduced.
The Midlands Emergency Services (EMS) rescue medics and crews are also on high alert and ready to respond across Howick and surrounding areas.
The Midlands EMS K9 Search & Rescue dogs and their handlers are also on standby and ready to assist with search and rescue operations if required.
Midlands EMS also dedicated 4×4 rescue vehicles to stranded vehicles requiring emergency assistance in snow-affected and difficult-to-access areas.
The eThekwini Municipality encouraged residents to remain indoors where possible, secure loose outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of strong winds and heavy rain.
Beachgoers, anglers, recreational boat users are strongly discouraged to go to the beach, coastal rocks, piers and other shoreline areas, as hazardous sea conditions are expected, on Monday.
Mariners, fishermen and operators of small to medium-sized vessels are advised not to venture into the open sea and to seek safe harbour until conditions improve.
The Chris Hani Municipality in the Eastern Cape, also announced the closure of more Passes, on Monday, including Penhoek Pass between Komani and James Calata (Jamestown), Barkley Pass between Khowa (Elliot) and Ekhephini (Barkley East), Boesmanshoek Pass between Molteno and Sterkstroom.
Road users are advised to avoid affected roads, reschedule travel plans, or use alternative routes where possible.
The Eastern Cape Department of Transport also announced several additional roads closures on Monday afternoon.
These include the R405 Kwabacha to Mandileni, the R415 Matatiele too Qachasnek Border post, R61 between Nxuba and Graaff Reinette re-opened, but is slippery, N9 Lootsberg pass between Middleburg and Graaff Reinet, the N6 Penhoek pass between Komani and Aliwal North, the R58 Barkly Pass between Elliot and Aliwal North, the R415 Matatiele to Qachasnek is snowing and the Port of Entry, R56 Matatiele to Xaxazana is snowing but drivable, R56 Matatiele to New Amalfe, is snowing but drivable, N2 KwaBhaca is flooded, R405 KwaBhaca to Mandileni, Brooksnek pass along the N2 towards eMaxesibeni, R61 Bizana to Mzamba, the R61 Bizana to Magusheni, and fallen trees on the R396 Nqanqarhu to Tsolo.
