A deep partial lunar eclipse is expected to be fully visible around the country at different times, on Thursday into Friday.
The event occurs when the sun, earth, and moon line up. During this time, the shadowed part of the moon beams, with splashes of red, because of filtered sunlight.
The Severe Weather and Information Centre of Southern Africa (SWAICSA) published areas suitable for viewing the event.
These are at Richards Bay (17:01 / 06:12), East London (17:13 / 06:33), Carnarvon (17:20 / 06:36), Bloemfontein (17:25 / 06:36), Johannesburg (17:21 / 06:26), George (17:36 / 06:56), Beaufort West (17:36 / 06:53), Cape Town (17:51 / 07:12) and Alexander Bay (18:06 / 07:15).
