City Power said it is on track to restore electricity to the Bree Substation.
This follows smoke detected underground the Fordsburg Substation, on the 23 August 2026, which caused a widespread power outage to nearby areas.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said technical teams have completed the layering of the cables and commenced the jointing process, bringing the network closer to the testing and commissioning stage required before further sections can be safely energised.
Electricity supply was restored to other affected areas including the Inner City, Hursthill and Reuven Service Delivery Centres.
Areas to still be restored are the Johannesburg CBD, Newtown and Hillbrow.
Mangena said power will be restored on the 3 September 2026, but could not confirm the exact time at which full supply will be restored to Bree Substation.
