Prudence Madiba, is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), following approval by Cabinet.
Madiba is a registered Electrical Engineer and seasoned engineering executive with more than two decades of experience at Eskom.
She is currently the General Manager: Research, Testing and Development, where she is responsible for strategic direction and executive leadership across research and innovation, technical strategy, operational improvement and the development of technical capabilities.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from the University of KwaZulu-Natal; a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Industrial) from the University of the Witwatersrand; and a masters in engineering management from the University of Pretoria.
She also completed the Executive Development Program at Duke University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
She is also an active member of the EPRI Research Advisory Committee, has previously served on the Executive Committee of the International Centre for Sustainable Coal and was the technical lead for Priority 1 of South Africa’s 2025 G20 Energy Transitions Working Group.

Her appointment strengthens SANEDI’s capacity to execute its mandate and to continue supporting government and the broader energy sector through credible research, innovation, technology development and evidence-based solutions.”
He also thanked Professor Prathaban Moodley for his leadership as Acting Chief Executive Officer during the transition period.
