Rand Water has urged municipalities it supplies with bulk water, to use lesser water.
This follows exceptionally high levels recorded, placing the water supply system under tremendous strain.
Rand Water also said demand continues to be on the rise.
Makenosi Maroo, Spokesperson of Rand Water, said “we call on all municipal customers to implement immediate measures to reduce consumption and stabilise the system.”
She also said municipalities were alerted to exorbitant amounts of consumption.
Areas of concern are the Cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane, EMfuleni, Mogale, Rustenberg, Midvaal, Ngwathe, Royal Bafokeng and Madibeng.
