South Africa’s session at Day 2 of the United Nations (UN) Biodiversity COP17, meeting, delved into investable outcomes.

This year’s event is held at Yerevan.

The delegation themed their sidewalks talks at the Pavilion: “Advancing South Africa’s Biodiversity Agenda: From Planning to Finance.”

Shonisani Munzhedzi, CEO of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), led the presentation, followed by a panel of discussions.

The discussion was moderated by Flora Mokgohloa, Deputy Director-General at the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), Candice Stevens, CEO of the Sustainable Finance Coalition, and Phindile Masangane, Executive at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).

Discussions centred around biodiversity priorities being developed into credible, investment-ready projects through project preparation, catalytic and blended finance, effective partnerships and measurable benefits for biodiversity and communities.

The proposed DBSA Biodiversity Investment Facility provides practical considerations on bridging the gap between planning and investment.
