A fire near Groenvlei Settlement in Philippi, flattened a facility managed by the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa.
The society took to social media on Friday, thanking the Disaster Relief Team for responding to the fire.
The team saved a mother and her one-day puppies.
The society said the family will receive the care they need, and once the puppies are old enough, they will be placed up for adoption.
“Mom will be sterilised and safely returned home to her family” said the society.
The fire is believed to have started at a nearby business and spread close to the settlement.
The Animal Society has encouraged donations to provide the fuel, transport, medical care, hospital treatment, food and emergency support for the animals.
