Amatola Water Board is preparing to take over the management of the Ludeke Dam, located 16 kilometers, northwest of Bizana, in the Eastern Cape.

The Dam, which is currently managed by Umngeni-uThukela Water, since 2014, is 100% full.

It supplies water to nearby Nomlacu Water Treatment Works, and holds 14,9 million cubic meters of water, and yields some 5,15 million cubic meters per year.

Amatola’s team visited the dam over the weekend, to assess its condition. Speaking from onsite, Dr Gaster Sharpley, Chairperson of the Amatola Board, said the management takeover, is a significant step and a watershed moment, in line with the organisation’s vision of providing bulk water services throughout the province.
