The Buffalo Municipality confirmed said its Fire and Emergency services teams responded to a fire in the East London CBD, today.

The fire broke out at the Boxer superstore, Jaggerstreet, Taxi City, in the CBD.

The fire was contained although the cause is  under investigated.
It is alleged by the shop keeper, a chinese national, that the fire started at 06:00 this morning.

Onsite were fire teams from various fire stations including Fleet Street, Vincent, Greenfields and Gompo. Also onsite were members of the South African Police Service.

The Working on Fire/ Kishugu teams released a report for July 2024 today, indicating  participation in 84 fires in the Eastern Cape alone.
About 3,000 hectares were burnt, as a result.

The report indicated most of the WoF resources went towards fighting 168 fires in KwaZulu-Natal and about 167 in Mpumalanga.
