Two days ago residents of Ekangala in Bronkhorspruit, took to the streets to protest about lack of water.

Another resident, wrote a public letter to leaders of the area “I am writing this letter with a heavy heart, to express my deep concern and distress over the severe impact that prolonged electricity loadshedding and water scarcity…”

The Bronkhorspruit water treatment plant has been under maintenance since Wednesday, the 21st May 2025, due to what the City of Tshwane called “technical challenges”.

On Saturday, the City said repair work is expected to be completed in a few days, now at 90% completed.

It now includes repairing a high lift pump, which suffered damage to its bearings, and removing another pump to repair it off site.

The water shutdown has inconvenienced residents of Ekangala and Rethabiseng, the most.
