Residents of the Cape are bracing themselves for a chilly weekend.

Meteorologists say cold weather is expected in the southern parts of the Northern Cape, northeastern parts of the Western Cape, southern parts of the Free State, interior of the Eastern Cape and south-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape on Friday.

As a result, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned against damaging wind and waves, from Cape Town to East London, accompanied by isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Isolated to scattered frost is also expected to develop over the southern and south-eastern interior of South Africa, from Friday until Sunday morning.
