City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) confirmed delays at the Lenasia crematorium are related to the refuelling of gas supply services at the facility.
Gas is supplied to the cremation incinerator.
Responding to concerns raised by aggrieved families, about delays at the facility, Thapelo Amad, Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for the City of Johannesburg’s community development, said gas levels at the facility are at a 30% capacity.
Amad said there are now newly introduced operational controls to ensure gas never runs out.
In addition, he said the facility will implement overtime and standby arrangements for crematorium personnel, to accommodate late afternoon, after hours and weekend requests.
