One of City Power’s technicians was killed by an illegally connected aerial bundled conductor cable, in the Crown Mines area.

As a result, all technical work at the site was suspended.

Operations are expected to resume once the scene has been cleared and declared safe by the Department of Labour.

Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of the local power utility, said the technician was walking towards a transformer switching station on Planet Avenue, when his foot came into contact with an illegally connected aerial bundled conductor cable.

The cable sparked, killing him at the scene and causing an unplanned power interruption in the Crown Mines area.

He said City Power is deeply saddened by this tragic death.

“This incident is a stark reminder that illegal electricity connections are not a victimless crime. Apart from damaging infrastructure and causing repeated outages, they place the lives of residents, children and employees working to restore electricity at risk” he added.
