Construction of the Mthatha Dam Raw Water Pumpstation is now 77% complete.
The OR Tambo District Municipality shared news on Tuesday, that the pump house structure is rising, equipment is being installed, and pipelines and electrical systems are taking shape.
The project cost R49.8 million.
The Municipality also said the project is creating local opportunities, with over R1.29 million spent on local labour and skills development support for community members.
Once completed, water will be supplied to a million people in Libode and Ngqeleni.
The Municipality was frank about technical challenges during construction, but said work progresses steadily on site.
