Water provision will be interrupted in three of Gauteng’s big cities- Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane, as from Thursday, 29 May 2025.

This is as maintenance of Rand Water system begins, at Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes systems.

During this time, pumping capacity at stations, is expected to be much lower, thus lessening provision in the following Municipalities: Rand West, Mogale City, Merafong, Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng Administration, and Victor Khanye, Thembisile Hani, Midvaal and Emfuleni.

Rand Water also said Winter months are better for maintenance work, due to low consumption, to minimise disruptions.

Rand Water’s Makenosi Maroo said in a statement on Friday, “the objective of this planned maintenance is to increase capacity and improve plant availability, reliability, and operational efficiency, thereby supporting a more resilient and adaptable water supply network in preparation for the anticipated increase in supply volumes from August 2025.”
