The Sol Plaatjie Municipality has asked residents to start storing enough water ahead of next Thursday water shutdown. During this period, there will be water supply interruptions, scheduled from Thursday, the 29th May until the 03rd June 2025.

This is to repair at least 16 leaks and replace valves on two pipelines.  In addition, three raw water abstraction pumps at the Vaal River, will be serviced and two water storage tanks disinfected.

A new 10 MegaVolt amp transformer will be installed at the old plant.

Martha Bartlett, Executive Mayor, said in a statement on Thursday, the Municipality will spend about R492 million, on this project in the current financial year (2025/2026). The pipe manufacture project is R285 million and the installation is around R241 million.
