The Eskom Centre in Diepkloof has long queues that are over a kilometer, as residents rush to upgrade pre-paid electricity meters.
Brian Nkosi, a resident of Meadowlands Zone 1, said he joined the queue as early as 7am this morning.
There are fears among residents that if prepaid meters are not renewed by Friday, the 22nd November 2024, there will be no electricity supply.
City Power said 99% of vendors have upgraded their meters.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said “to ensure that we reach the outstanding 1061 customers, we have increased boots on the ground, with dedicated teams spread across all areas of supply, conducting audits and providing added support to customers to expedite
the process of recoding those meters.”
He said in addition, more technicians and resources were deployed to customer call Centre.
Thus far, Roodepoort, Reuven, Randburg, Lenasia, and the Inner City SDCs have achieved over 99.6% compliance, while Midrand stands at 99.31%, Hursthill at 99.44%, and the Alexandra SDC at 87.15%.
Overall, we have successfully upgraded 141,630 out of 142,810 pre-paid meters, achieving a project completion rate of 99%.
