At around 02:51 am, on Sunday morning, the 22 December 2024, an earthquake struck 101 km (63 mi) West of Brandvlei, South Africa.

Fhe Earthquake bulletin said it measured about 5.3 in the Reichert scale.

The quake’s focal depth was 10 km (6.2 mi).

Some residents reported feeling tremors as far as near Cape Town when it occurred.

But the Council of Geoscience is yet to confirm whether this was an earthquake or a tremor.

The Council also urged the public to exercise caution and sound judgement when reading and circulating information, as it could cause panic and alarm.
