The Council for Geoscience (CGS) confirmed a seismic event on Friday, in Welkom, in the Free State.

The South African National Seismograph Network (SANSN) confirmed the earthquake had a magnitude of about 3,3.

Its epicentre was southwest of Odendaalsrus, Welkom’s gold mining region.

SANSN monitors seismic wave activities throughout the country.

Mahlatse Mononela, Communications Manager at the CGS, encouraged members of the public to record their experiences using available online questionnaires available on the organisation’s website.
