Authorities in Guatemala evacuated hundreds of people from nearby villages, after the Fuego Volcano erupted on Monday, August 4, 2026.
They also closed the National Route 14 near Alotenango, and other roads.
Local schools are closed, and tourists were denied access to peaks like Acatenango and hiking trails.
The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) issued a second-highest orange warning against the volcano, which is at a critical explosive phase.
The volcano has stretched across 3,763-meters, splashing out ash plumes of 4 to 6 kilometers into the air.
