Customers of the Elukwatini Spar Complex, are breathing a sigh of relief, after the Municipality unblocked the long-running sewer spillage.

Phetla Thapelo, Spokesperson of the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, said things are operating normally again, for now.

The rest is left to residents in the area, after the Municipality discovered the blockage was as a result of foreign objects that were chucked into the sewer main line running from a manhole at Elukwatini Spar.

Thapelo said “the Municipality makes an earnest appeal to all, to stop throwing foreign materials into the sewer system, as this causes damage to the community’s infrastructure.”

He said the Municipality had to source an excavator because internal resources were inadequate.

Stones, sanitary towels and oil, were found in the sewer lines.
