Johannesburg Water (JW) said in an update to residents on Wednesday evening, the 12th February 2025, the power failure in Emfuleni has worsened the water situation.
This has disrupted pumping from Rand Water’s Forest Hill and Eikenhof systems, leaving taps dry in some areas.
JW said water levels are low in reservoirs and towers in areas supplied by the Commando System, the Randburg, Deep South, Midrand and Sandton systems.
Rand Water (RW) said water in its systems is dwindling quickly, due to high water consumption.
RW also said power to the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant, was restored at 6:20pm but another failure occurred two hours later.
The eMfuleni Municipality teams are trying to resolve the issue, but the time of restoration is unknown.
