The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) said the shutdown of the 53 pipeline to allow for repairs on the N3 is progressing well.
The shutdown, began on the 27th January 2025.
The uMngungundlovu District and parts of the outer west of the eThekwini Municipality which are supplied through 53 pipeline have experienced water interruptions during this time.
While the shutdown was in progress, uMngeni-uThukela Water also embarked repairs to sections of the 53 pipeline that were leaking.
UMngeni-uThukela Water (UUW) said it’s technical teams have now completed laying new sections of the pipeline and welding is scheduled to commence.
The repair portion of the pipeline by UUW is due to be completed this coming weekend however the pipeline will remain out of commission until SANRAL completes their portion of the shutdown.
The testing and commissioning of the pipeline is expected to start on the 26th to the 27th February 2025, and thereafter it will be recommissioned into operation.
