Smart Africa has launched an African Al Council.
The Smart Africa Secretariat said in a statement on Wednesday, the Council is an effort to strengthen the governance of Al in Africa.

The Secretariat said it will be consulting with more stakeholders at significant events, including the Paris Al Summit (10th until 11th February 2025), the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (03rd – 06th March 2025).

The Council will then be launched formally in Kigali, in April 2025.

Earlier this year, Smart Africa officially adopted its constitution, governing the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA), a collaborative initiative designed to bring together cybersecurity authorities from African countries to address the growing challenges posed by cyber threats and crimes.

The 5th ANCA meeting also unveiled the presentation of ANCA’s comprehensive five-year strategy, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity resilience across the African continent.

CEO of Smart Africa, Lacina Koné, said at the time, “the launch of the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities is a landmark moment for the continent.
Cybersecurity is no longer a national issue; it is a continental and global concern. Through ANCA, we are building a strong, coordinated framework that will allow African nations to tackle cyber threats collaboratively. This is essential not only for the safety of our digital infrastructure but also for the realization of our vision of a Single Digital Market by 2030.”
