About 279 domestic and international flights were cancelled in Japan, due to Typhoon Saudel.
Japan’s airline ANA and Japan Airlines (JAL), cancelled all their flights to and from Naha Airport in Okinawa on August 26, leaving an estimated 1,688 passengers, stranded.
Ferry services from Okinawa to surrounding islands were also cancelled.
The Japan Meteorological Agency warned against severe winds, of an estimated 234 kilometers per hour.
As a result, authorities have warned residents about strong winds, torrential rains and the possibility of landslides.
