The fire at Bergplaas in Georges Valley was raging on, Saturday morning.

The Letaba Fire Protection Association (FPA) said one of its members, David Bopape, who was sent to the fire on Friday evening, reported a new fire on Saturday morning, in that area.

It is suspected the cause might be rituals taking place on the farm.

Various teams were sent to the fire, including Paul Alternroxel’s two and one skid unit, as well as Tzaneen Emergency Support Team, Marnus de Beer, Avulani from Diggersrest Timber Company and  Das Baurenhof farm.

Byron Stroud, another member of the Letaba Fire Protection Association in that area, confirmed that the fire was moving uphill through the pine.

It is fuelled by strong winds and fuel load.

Just before midday on Saturday, Marnus de Beer and Avulani did a back burn to stop the fire from jumping the road.

Moreover, the FPA reported that more teams were sent to the fire, including a second Tzaneen Emergency Support Team.

Soon the top right flank was under control but firefighters continue with efforts to extinguish that fire.

A second fire was reported at the Modjadjiskloof dumping site.

The FPA said it informed the Modjadjiskloof Fire Brigade.
