Firefighting efforts continue close to the R62 between Montagu and Barrydale.

This follows flare ups in previously contained areas, due to hot and windy conditions.

The fireline has now extended into the Overberg District, where fire services are also on site.

Fire Services from the Cape Winelands District Municipality and CapeNature, are on site with fire vehicles as well as ground teams, supported by the Fire Protection Association (FPA), local farmers, and their agri-workers and vehicles.

Non-Governmental organisation- Thula Thula Hout Bay, with the City of Cape Town, are assisting residents to pick up pieces left by this week’s fire.

Some residents lost everything in the fire.

Early estimates indicate between 180 – 220 homes were destroyed.

This has left hundreds displaced, hence Thula Thula is collecting items such as bedding, blankets, clothing, toiletries, groceries and baby care items.

Those wishing to donate can drop off items at the CCP Offices, on 9 Princess Close in Hout Bay.
