Wemmershoek, Franschhoek

The fire in Wemmershoek, Franschhoek continues to burn out of control.

The fire originated in the Langrug area, on Wednesday.

It cascaded down to threaten farms along the Wemmershoek Road (R301) on Saturday evening, before turning towards the R45.

Firefighters fought back with backburns, but the fire had already claimed one structure, damaged another and destroyed a tractor.

No casualties were reported.

A reconnaissance flight is expected to go up on Sunday morning, to assess the full extent of the damage.
