The Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA) said as of Wednesday, 04th November 2024, food and water would be supplied to illegal miners still underground Stilfontein, in the North West.
Magnificent Mndebele, said “a bag of Mageu, batteries and water is being prepared (wrapped) to be sent underground.”
He said the Mahlasedi Foundation brought 26 boxes of Mageu (10 per box) and 41 bottles of 5 litres of water.
Yesterday a rope was left underground over night, it went down taking the last load of food (15 boxes of Mageu), the rope was pulled up at 9:20am, this morning.
Mndebele said 2 dead bodies have surfaced. 1 decomposed body and another, looked like he passed away recently.
On Wednesday, another body was extracted.
He said there will be food cooked for the volunteers and water. A team is out to gather the resources.
“A request will be sent underground for them to attach a letter with a name tag to every corp that is being pulled out, as we are not able to identify every dead body.”
