The Department of Agriculture announced the successful containment of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in parts of the Eastern Cape and Limpopo.
As a result, John Steenhuisen, Minister of Agriculture, has lifted the restriction in the movement of animals, in those disease management areas (DMA).
Steenhuisen said about 144,424 vaccinations were done in the Kouga and Kou-Kamma municipalities in the Eastern Cape.
Despite this, about 76 farms in the Eastern Cape province, where animals were either infected or vaccinated, remain under quarantine.
About 23, 024 vaccinations were done in Limpopo’s Vhembe District.
The DMA in KwaZulu-Natal also remains active, due to signs of active virus circulation in the area.
Some outbreaks were detected outside of the DMA.
