Forty (40) informal structures left residents of the Zoo informal settlement, part of the uMngeni Local Municipality, displaced, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A preliminary report suggests the blaze occurred at around 03:00am.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) said no fatalities or critical injuries were reported.
He also said COGTA disaster management officials will continue to monitor the situation closely alongside the uMngeni Local Municipality.
