The Ekurhuleni Municipality said work is well underway to repair the Palm Ridge substation.
The community of Palm Ridge, East of Johannesburg, has been in the dark, since the substation caught fire last week Thursday, 3 July 2025.
The City also said preliminary results from tests conducted on the transformers were completed and two of the transformers can now take load, while another is being fixed.
“The city is considering a temporary contingency supply to bypass the burnt building to restore supply to all affected communities. Various switching stations are being considered in the process and will be prioritised between today and Friday, 11 July 2025.”
Full restoration of power can only happen next Tuesday, the 15 July 2025.
