City Power said 6 new cables were installed successfully in the Central Substation.
A fire at the substation damaged the underground tunnel, on the 22nd December 2024.
As a result, most parts of the Inner City had no electricity on Christmas Day, including the Johannesburg CBD, Marshalltown, Selby and surrounding areas.
Isaac Mangena of City Power, said yesterday, the 26th December 2024, “so far 60% of customers who were affected by the outage are back on. We still have to install 6 more cables in order to reinstall 100% of the power supply.”
He also said the full restoration of power is expected to be Monday, the 30th December 2024.
