City Power will do an emergency operation on the Central Substation, from 08:30 to 14:00 on Christmas day, on Wednesday, the 25 December 2024.
Isaac Mangena’s City Power said the purpose of this emergency switch-off is to facilitate the clearance of debris and damaged cables within the tunnels.
“This action is part of the ongoing efforts to reinstate power supply following a minor fire which damaged our electricity infrastructure” he said.
Affected areas with no electricity are Marshalltown, Johannesburg CBD, the City and Suburban, Selby and surrounds.
Mangena said all material was delivered to the site, and the team will commence the installation of approximately 1.2 kilometers of new cable on Wednesday morning.
“While power supply from the isolation will be restored by 14h00 to 60 percent of customers, we anticipate that repairs on the underground cables may extend to Saturday, 28 December 2024, after which 100 percent of supply will be restored” he said.
