A vocal resident on social media, Magnus Barrett expressed dissatisfaction at news of water shedding in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality.
“… Firstly, Matjhabeng is required to pay the outstanding R7+billion and Secondly, kindly address the cleanliness, purity, quality and pressure of water supply…

Another resident said Elias Makau, said” it’s a third day now, only water open around midnight, and I have never seen any water tanker around Phomolong Ext 2…”

The Vaal Central Board said on Friday, the Balkfontein Water Supply System is under strain, hampering water supply to Matjhabeng and Vaal areas.

The Balkfontein Plant has reduced water production capacity of an estimated 40 million litres per day, due to low water levels in dams.
As a result, filters in the dam are overloaded and decreasing output.

Water pressure is also not consistent in the system.

An interim measure implemented by the Water Board, is rationing supply, between 5am and 1pm daily, until the 15th of November 2024.

In addition, about 8 water tankers are supplying high lying areas of Matjhabeng Municipality.

Full supply of water is expected by the 15th November 2024, once dams are fully restored.
