George now has a public Silent Book Club, launched this week.
It is an initiative of the George Tourism and the George Library, to encourage both locals and visitors to read more, for just an hour.
The club meets every Wednesday from 13:00 to 14:00 at Unity Park.
Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, Spokesperson of the town, said “the club is a perfect midweek break—an hour to relax, recharge, and lose yourself in a book alongside fellow book lovers, all without the pressure of discussion or formalities.”
He also said despite cold and rainy weather on the 6th August, the event drew a loyal group of readers, who came snuggled in blankies and throw overs.
Readers can also join a WhatsApp group, where upcoming book-related activities are shared—like new book launches, themed reading discussions, and special literary events.
Those who can’t make it to Unity Park on Wednesdays, can join a club in their area, or initiate one.
