Global Debt is rising according to the International Monetary Fund.
Recently recorded data on its database indicates that global debt is returning to its long-term rising trend. Debt in low-income developing countries, according to the IMF, rose significantly in the last two decades. “Even as their debt levels remain on average relatively low compared to advanced and emerging economies, the pace of increase since the global financial crisis has created vulnerabilities.”
The report also found low-income countries are debt stressed. More than half of low-income developing countries are either currently in or at high risk of debt distress.
About one fifth of emerging markets have sovereign bonds trading at distressed levels. Read more in the IMF’s blog:
