Global residents have begun with various initiatives to honour Nelson Mandela, former Stateman of South Africa, on his birthday, the 18th July 2025.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Mbongiseni Buthelezi, announced this year’s theme back in June. “We are inviting the world to respond with action, to tackle poverty, fight inequality and build a society grounded in dignity, justice and shared humanity.”

There are thousands of initiatives on the go, to commemorate Madiba’s legacy.

Earthnews365 got hold of these:

ACDP Randwest, will be serving warm soup to those in need, in the area.

The German Information Centre announced a member of the Group of Friends of the Nelson Mandela Rules,“Nelson Mandela Platz” in Nuremberg, Germany, was renamed to honour his message of reconciliation.

The UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime launched an awareness-raising campaign to mark Nelson Mandela International Day, in lieu of an in-person meeting of the Group of Friends, following their March and May sessions.

The campaign is a call to action — aligned with the UNODC’s mandate to support prison reform and promote the Nelson Mandela and Bangkok Rules.
