The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) is discussing annual plans at the Reserve Bank’s head office campus, in Pretoria.

The event, launched at the Paris One Planet Summit in 2017, is expected to proceed until Friday this week.

It brings central banks and supervisors together to commit to sharing best practices in managing climate and nature related risks and supporting the transition to a sustainable economy.

The NGFS is chaired by Sabine Mauderer, Deputy Governor of the Deutsche Bundesbank, with SARB Deputy Governor Fundi Tshazibana serving as Vice Chair.

Earlier in January this year, the NGFS presented a paper proposing a more holistic and inclusive approach to incorporating climate change considerations into monetary policy operations.

The paper elaborates on covering both the asset and liability sides of central banks’ balance sheets.
