Reports of 5 beaches in eThekwini with alarming Ecoli levels, exceeding 400 counts, were published by Talbot last week, on the 21st November 2024.
Areas with counts exceeding 400, should not be used for recreational purposes. Counts should ideally be between 0 and 130, according to the Department of Water and Sanitation guidelines for recreational areas.
These are Point Beach (733count/100ml), South Beach (3873coubt/100ml), North Beach (4352/100ml), Battery Beach (1296 count /100ml) and Country Club Beach (1396 count/ 100ml).
North Beach is one of the most popular Summer spots.
Talbot also published results of areas of concern close to uMngeni River.
These are Kingfisher Canoe Club (78,000 counts/100ml) and Riverside (2, 755, 000/ml).
