Police arrested illegal miners, every day last week, and seized firearms, explosives, and suspected gold-bearing materials, at Pilgrim’s Rest and surrounding areas.
Two people were arrested on Monday, at Pilgrim’s Rest, a 50-year-old male suspect, on Tuesday, at Kwabokeni, with blasting cartridges.
On Wednesday police arrested two people in Elandshoek, for the possession of gold-bearing material (GBM) and gold-bearing equipment (GBE).
Seven others, undocumented foreign nationals, were arrested on Thursday, also in possession of GBM and GBE.
On Sunday, an operation conducted at Majaks Village in the Pilgrim’s Rest area, led to the arrest of three undocumented suspects aged between 21 and 26, with GBM, and GBE materials.
