Daily water restrictions or throttling kicks off on Tuesday, the 4 February 2025, from 18:00 until 05:00 the following morning.
Johannesburg Water said this is an urgent intervention to break a trend that is not sustainable, following an 8% climb in water use, between December 2024 and January 2025.
Johannesburg Water’s Nombuso Shabalala, said this is the highest increase recorded in the last 12 months.
As a result, current water levels in reservoirs and towers are under severe pressure.
Shabalala said “the past weeks have been characterized by heatwaves and an increase in temperature, as a result, put a strain on our systems.
